AFA Safe Sport Training Guide

Creating a Safer Swim Community for Everyone

At the Aquatic Foundation of Alaska, safety is at the core of everything we do. As part of our commitment to USA Swimming’s Safe Sport Recognized Club program, we ask all families, athletes, and adults involved in our program to complete the appropriate Safe Sport training.

Below are the instructions for each group:


👨‍👩‍👧 Parents & Guardians

Course: Parent’s Guide to Misconduct in Sport
Duration: ~30 minutes
How to Complete:

  1. Go to USA Swimming Hub

  2. Log in or create an account using the email linked to your swimmer’s membership.

  3. In the top menu, click Education → Course Catalog.

  4. Choose the “Parents & Volunteers” category.

  5. Select “Parent’s Guide to Misconduct in Sport” and click Start.


🧒 Youth Athletes (Ages 13–17)

Course: Safe Sport for Youth Athletes
Duration: ~30 minutes
How to Complete:

  1. Go to USA Swimming Hub

  2. Log in or create an account linked to the athlete’s USA Swimming membership.

  3. Click Education → Course Catalog.

  4. Choose the “Athletes” category.

  5. Select “Safe Sport for Youth Athletes” and click Start


👧 Kids (Ages 5–12)

Course: Safe Sport for Kids
Duration: ~15–20 minutes
How to Complete:

  1. Log in or create an account linked to the athlete’s USA Swimming membership.

  2. Click Education → Course Catalog.

  3. Choose “Athletes”, then find “Safe Sport for Kids”.

  4. Click Start and follow the friendly, age-appropriate lessons.


🏊 Adult Athletes (Ages 18+)

Course: Adult Athlete Protection Training
Duration: ~60 minutes
Required for:
All adult athletes who practice or compete with minor athletes.
How to Complete:

  1. Create a new account if you were under 18.

  2. Log in at USA Swimming Hub

  3. Go to Education → Course Catalog.

  4. Look under “Athlete Protection Training”.

  5. Select and complete the full Adult Athlete Protection Training.


🔄 Training Expiration & Renewal

  • Parents: Every 18 months

  • Youth Athletes (13–17): Annually

  • Kids (5–12): Recommended annually

  • Adult Athletes: Annually
